Upper Missinaibi Whitewater

Few rivers can match the power, beauty and history of the Upper Missinaibi. Recenly featured in a CBC television documentary and an Outpost Magazine article, on the fur trader era, the Missinaibi River rushes 350 miles North from it's source at Missinaibi Lake to James Bay, over Precambrian granite, through string bogs and marshes, and all within a Provincial Park. Our guided trip catches the river near the headwaters, and for 100 miles of river, we drop 300'. Although the pace is relaxed enough to allow a full day of whitewater instruction, the trip is still demanding. At the end of a day of running rapids, nothing is more welcome than a hearty Missinaibi Headwaters feast prepared for you by your guide. Truly, the best way to experience one of the world's great rivers.

Thunderhouse Falls Fly-out
Skill Level: Intermediate Departs: Jul, Cost: $1725 CDN Length: 7 days	One of Canada's great waterways, the Missinaibi flows North, uninterrupted for 350 miles to James Bay. We begin our adventure at the town of Mattice, the halfway point on the river. Together we will explore the first 50 miles of the lower Missinaibi, playing and practising our whitewater skills in Class II and Class III rapids as we slowly make our way to Thunderhouse Falls. A rest day is taken at the spectacular campsite perched 150 feet above the canyon, where time is spent marveling in the natural beauty of Thunderhouse, swimming and fishing. Below the falls, the river drops 300 ft. in a single day, as the Missinaibi plummets off the Canadian Shield and on to the Hudson's Bay Lowlands. Our final night together is spent at Bull Moose Bay, camped beneath the towering clay banks of the Lowlands.
