The guaranteed mid-week water releases on our front door section of the Madawaska River ensures a superb variety of Class I-IV rapids. Advanced paddling groups will make day trips to one of many other rivers or sections nearby. The Middle or Main Channels of the Ottawa, Petawawa, Palmer Rapids, Lower Madawaska, Upper Madawaska, Opeongo, are all popular local runs. Wednesday afternoons we head over to our beautiful Bark Lake Beach. It is a casual diversion from class, where you can test drive different boats, practice your roll, toss a Frisbee, or just relax. This park is an Important Bird Area, and was designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 1982. It is located at the intersection of three flyways: the Pacific, Central, and Mississippi. Hundreds of thousands of ducks, geese, gulls, eagles and other birds use this area for moulting, staging, migrating, and nesting. You may have the opportunity to see Wood Bison which were reintroduced to this area in 1984, where they have thrived on the abundant grasses. The Hay River flows through this wetland, with low grassy banks or flooded banks, depending on water levels. We offer canoe and kayak rentals along with a transportation service to this unique area.

With miles and miles of fast flowing current, fun rapids mostly in the class I&II range, good fishing, nice campsites and of course the Seals (some trips see hundreds) this remote river is truly a gem. We fly in from Thompson Manitoba to the river, spend two weeks descending to Hudson Bay, where we are met by boat and taken the 50 miles south to the town of Churchill, no doubt seeing Beluga Whales along the way. In Churchill you can participate in Whale tours and maybe see Polar Bears.
