Coastal Adventures
Coastal Adventures has been a pioneer in providing quality instruction in sea kayaking in Eastern Canada for over two decades. Whether you are looking for an introduction to the sport or are seeking advanced training, we have something for you in our program.
We offer courses leading to certification by the British Canoe Union (BCU), the Association of Eastern Canadian Sea Kayaking Outfitters (AECSKO), and Paddle Canada (formerly the Canadian Recreational Canoeing Association). Our skilled sea kayaking instructors are drawn from both within Canada and overseas (e.g., Britain, Ireland), and include BCU Level 5 Coaches and Paddle Canada IT’s. This allows us to keep abreast of the latest ideas and techniques in sea kayaking.
SAFETY AND SEA KAYAKING
How do you anticipate and avoid potential dangers? How do you cope with a capsize? During this intensive day long clinic the various factors relating to sea kayak safety will be covered, both in theory and in practice.
INTRODUCTORY SEA KAYAKING COURSE
These weekend courses offer an intensive theoretical and practical introduction to sea kayaking. Topics covered include the necessary equipment, the basic paddling strokes, rescue techniques, navigation and weather and water conditions.
COMPREHENSIVE SEA KAYAKING COURSE
This intensive, six day, course reinforces and extends the information and skills taught in the weekend course. A multi-day trip (including a night paddle), group leadership, and risk assessment will be important components.
ADVANCED SEA KAYAKING COURSE (CA LEVEL 4 + BCU 5* Training)
During this course Andy Stamp (BCU Level 5 Coach) and Scott Cunningham (PC Senior IT) will provide the theory and skills for sea kayaking in advanced conditions. This includes tidal currents, exposure to no landing zones and surf beaches, paddling in swells and waves.
