Geneva Kayak Center

At the Geneva Kayak Center, our instructors love to paddle and hope to open up the world of kayaking to you! Holding both American Canoe Association (ACA) and British Canoe Union (BCU) certifications, our instructors use innovative and fun methods of learning in our training offerings. Our instructors care about your safety and learning progression and will help you have fun out on the water!

Located on the Fox River in downtown Geneva, IL, the Geneva Kayak Center is the foremost kayak-training center in Illinois. We utilize our riverfront location for beginning instruction, area bodies of water for intermediate training, and travel to prime sea kayak locales around the country for our advanced instruction.

We offer a complete range of instruction and certification in the sport of kayak through the ACA and BCU. From classes designed for those who have never been in a kayak, to trainings and assessments designed to help you progress in the sport, to instructor certification, Geneva Kayak has the course for you! We also offer supplemental courses such as beginner and advanced surf workshops, roll classes, pool sessions and clinics covering different aspects of the sport.

OFFERED COURSES:

  • Intro to Kayak
This is our most popular class, designed for the novice who is interested in kayaking but has limited or no experience in a boat. This class is designed cover basic strokes and safety for recreational kayakers on calm water.

  • ACA/BCU Skills Progression Courses
The skills assessment system is designed to clarify the paddler's path of progression, identify skill and knowledge level at the time of assessment, and assist in risk management decisions for kayakers and sea kayakers.

  • Surf Workshops
The kayak surfing workshops are designed to help you have fun and be safe while traveling through and playing in breaking waves, swells, following seas and rough conditions. While not well known as a surf "locale", the great lakes (we use Lake Michigan for our beginner workshop) are a “great” place to hone your kayak surfing skills.

  • Instructor Certification
Geneva Kayak Center offers instructor certification in the coastal kayak discipline through the American Canoe Association. BCU coaching/assessing certificates are also offered.

  • Pool Sessions
A great way to learn or hone kayaking skills including rolls, rescues and bracing. Pool Sessions will be offered twice a month from November to April and once a month from May to October. The session are located at the Collins Indoor Aquatic Center in Carol Steam, IL (20 minutes from Geneva Kayak Center).

  • Skills Clinics
Clinics on a variety of topics are offered throughout the year at Geneva Kayak Center. These clinics are both on-water and off-water and include: Kayak Navigation, Tides & Currents, Weather, and Stoke Refinement.
