Green River Adventures operates in the southern mountains of western North Carolina, near Asheville. The mountains and rivers here are old and beautiful. One of the perks of being in the Asheville area is the amazing number of creeks and rivers within 1 1/2 hours driving distance. There is always somewhere to paddle. During our season (May-October) we usually teach on the Green River, the French Broad, the Tuckaseegee, and the Nolichucky.
We recognize that just as each individual who comes to us for instruction is unique, the clinics should also is unique. We will work with you to set the pace you like, and focus on the skills that will allow you to get the most fun out of this incredible sport! We specialize in beginner and intermediate instruction. We offer private instruction and small clinics. We limit our clinic size to 4 people. This makes it easy to customize the format to fit our students' needs. We have found that a group of 4:1 is much more flexible and enjoyable than the industry standard of 12 clients with 2 or 3 instructors. We progress faster, get to know each other better, and crowd the rivers less.
Tested and proven teaching methods speed our students' learning curve. The best method for kayak instruction involves having several simple and refined ways to teach any skill. Then teaching these skills in a pyramid fashion so that one skill prepares the student for the next.
Being a great instructor is a process of learning. We strive to be great instructors by watching our students, listening to their feedback and by constantly working on ways to improve how we teach skills.
We follow up with our students to help them in choosing and purchasing equipment and finding other people to paddle with through our Yahoo group.
