Itchetucknee Springs State Park - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Ft. White/High Springs, FL
Itchetucknee is like a theme park for tube riders in the warm months, very crowded, bumper or shall I say tube to tube all the way down the run. The winter is entirely different. We only saw two others on the entire river and they were in rental kayaks. The river is beautiful, clear, full of huge bass, wading birds and pairs of ducks. The current is slow and gentle. Truly a jewel of a park...in the winter. There is a campground at the north entrance that will pick you up at the south parking lot and take you back to your kayak. We did the shuttle thing but next time will park & unload at the south parking lot, pay the fee and paddle upstream, then drift back.
We were told that the facilities at the head springs, put in area were closed, however we found them open, clean and working. There is a trail and dock for lauching.
There are fees to access the park.
The park is located 4 miles northwest of Ft. White off SR 47 and 238. There are park signs from I-75 to the park.
