Occoquan Reservoir - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Lorton/Woodbridge, VA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: inluvwithsara

Description:

A very wide slow moving river (almost lake like) with mile markers...we put in a at the marina, and paddled up the river for a just shy of 6 miles turned around and paddled back down...it was absolutely beautiful...no motors bigger then 10 horsepower, so all the traffic on the water was fishermen in little rowboats with trolling motors, a few pontoon boats, and kayaks...very quiet

On the trip, got to watch osprey dive to the water and come up with fish, and a bald eagle do the same...wow, so cool...

I am not sure how far up stream you can go, my guess is to at least Bullrun Marina...down stream, there has to be a dam somewhere...lots of little coves.
