Rocky Pond - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Boylston, MA
Submitted by: Ron Goodenow
Description:
Rocky Pond is a relatively small pond located in Boylston, Massachusetts, about eight miles from Worcester. It has a few cabins and a couple of houses, but is largely protected by conservation land, with some proposed additional development opposed by area residents. The pond is very clean, has a small beach reachable only by boat, is virtually deserted on week days, has New England's only floating bog, there is a profusion of wild life, including great herons, and there's excellent fishing. All in all a real gem in an area that has seen tremendous population growth, perfect for a few hours of relaxed paddling in an environment that could be in Maine or New Hampshire.
Accommodations:
There is a small public ramp suitable for canoes and kayaks.
Directions:
From I-290 take the Northboro-Boylston Church Street exit and head west on Church Street for about a mile and take the first right onto Warren Street. Fifty yards or so turn right onto Rocky Pond Road and you will soon come upon a parking area on the right.
