Ichetucknee Springs State Park - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: July 2004
Difficulty: Easy

Description:

On Wednesday, we regretfully left St. Marks, but we had many more adventures ahead. We drove about 2 hours east to Ichetucknee Springs State Park. This is another spring-fed crystal-clear river, and it was promoted as a must-see river, and it was more than we expected. We put in at a lower launch point, and paddled up to the northern-most point of the river, just below the springs. We tied the boats at the upper landing, and walked about 1/2 mile through the woods to the Blue Hole Spring, which is about 30 yards across, and probably 30 or 40 feet deep. We snorkeled for about 10 minutes, which was all we could stand in the chilly water. After lunch at the upper landing, we paddled back down, dodging the many tubers on the river.
