Ressurection Bay - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
It was my first solo trip and the weather was "iffy". A little bit of wind, some rain and waves but nothing drastic. I just told myself I'd stick close to shore. The waves became fun after I got used to them and the sun began to sneak its way through the clouds as I got underway. The scenery was, as always, magnificent. Mountains pushed up from the bay on both sides topped with new snow and the waterfalls flowing from the sky down the lush rainforested slopes.
After an invigorating five hour paddle I began looking for a place to spend the night, they can be far and few between but I found a nice little niche close to a stream for fresh water with plenty of firewood nearby and VIEWS!
Setting up camp, cooking and wondering around taking pictures gave way to relaxing by the fire, reading and enjoying a glass of wine. Then getting set for the night by making sure there where no foodstuffs hanging around for curious bears. Sure enough, in the morning I walked by the steam I had walked last night and there were fresh bear tracks. Read those "Bear Aware" articles before camping in AK!
