Cuivre River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Troy, MO
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: Terry Suchland - Cuivre River Outfitters

Description:

Cuivre River is set in the central east part of Missouri. It has many miles of pleasant paddling. Passing from long straight flows to narrow strips doted with gravel bars and shoals. It is a quiet and peaceful trip for one day or several. The fishing is good and the scenery is excellent. This is a great place for the beginner, family or the experienced paddler who wants to get away from the crowds. This is a river to relax on and have a nice lunch on a gravel bar. I cannot find the words to describe the serenity of this river. At low water you will have to get wet in a few places to get past the shoals but who cares. You came to get wet anyway.

Accommodations:

There is camping at the state park plus local hotels in the city of Troy.

Fees:

No fees or permits required to go on the river.

Directions:

From St. Louis, MO. take highway 70 west to highway 61 north to Troy, MO. Then take highway 47 east to the Cuivre River State Park. Turn into the park and go to the visitor's center.

Launches:

Access is limited to a few public areas, however Cuivre River Outfitters can assist you gaining access to other areas.
