Lake Whitehall - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Hopkington, MA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: dennis twomey

Lake Whitehall is part of a state park in Hopkington. It is shallow but very clean and quiet. The views are spectacular with very few homes visible from the water. You feel like your paddling in a lake in northern reaches of New England. There are very few boats; mostly fishermen. The lake is full of inlets, and is a maze of neat islands to explore. There is a waterway in the middle of the lake you follow like a river with islands and marsh on 3 ft either side of you. The lake is full of wildlife. Its a great size lake for a kayak or canoe. It takes me about 1 hr to get to the other side from the launch in a kayak. But you can go all around it in about 4 hours.

There is plenty of paved parking and a great boat launch. No bathrooms. There is also a hiking trail that goes all around the lake that takes about 3hrs to do.

From center of Westboro, MA take Rt 135 South about 10 min Lake is on right. From Hopkington, MA take 135 North about 10 min, lake is on left. Turn at state park sign
