North River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Marshfield, MA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: chipheb View Profile

Description:

The North River is a slow moving winding river that begins in Hanover and empties into the Atlantic in Marshfield. This is a tidal river so watch the tides. It is a little work going against the tide but doable. We launched from Brick Kiln lane in Pembroke and paddled about 6 miles to Union St in Marshfield. It is about a 3 hour leisure paddle with a break. Very quiet other than going under Rte 3.

Accommodations:

There are a couple of nice spots to stop along the way. Blueberry Island has a little campsite with fireplace. A litte further down is Couch Beach which has a picnic table and trash barrels. It is a town owned park I believe.

Fees:

Make sure to park on Marshfield side of bridge. Need a permit for Norwell side.

Launches:

Pembroke - Follow Rte 139 to Brick Kiln Lane. Look for dirt road on the right about a mile in. Unmarked. Parking for 3-4 cars.

Marshfield-Follow Rte 139 south to Pine St. Take a left. Follow Pine St to Union St. Take a left. Follow Union St to Bridge. Take a left on a small dirt road before the bridge.

Resources:

The North/South River Watershed association has booklets and maps on the area.
