Bungay River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Attleboro, MA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: kb5tbb

If you're ever in the Attleboro area and want an easy, relaxing trip, try the Bungay. There is practically no current so it makes it easy to put-in and paddle up river a few miles and turn around. You will see an abundance of turtles and birds. The trip winds you through several miles between Rt 152 and Lindsey St. After a mile you won't hear the hustle and bustle of nearby streets or road traffic and you'll forget you're in a fairly large town.

There are no places to stop that I'm aware of, as you are mostly in a marsh surrounding the Bungay River. If you were to get out of your boat, the re-entry would be wet for most of the journey.

From I-95 take exit 5 (Toner Blvd / Rt 152). Follow signs toward Attleboro (look for signs that say Bishop Feehan). Don't take the Bishop Feehan turn off, continue on Rt 152 heading south. When you come to Holden St, about 2 miles down, take a left turn. The put-in will be on your left about 1 mile down. Distances aren't exact but close.

There is an off-street parking lot at the put-in for boaters only. It accommodates at least 4 vehicles, probably more if small and parked nicely.
