White Rock, BC is a pleasant village situated on the north shore of Semiamoo Bay. The village is a summer resort for Canadiens and Americans. There are many small excellent restraunts lining the main road in the village center.

We launched from Semiamoo Spit and paddled around Semiamoo Bay to White Rock. The distance is approximately 5 nm. There is open water to the west and consideration should be given to the winds. We planned our paddle to depart at low tide since there is a 1.8 kt current into Drayton Harbor. The paddle to White Rock was along the mud flats of Semiamoo Harbor. We saw lots of herron, osprey and a bald eagle in the area. There is a long Boardwalk leading out to a small marina and public dock. The dock is not kayaker "friendly" being approximately 24" in high. At low tide there are considerable mud flats (1/4 mi) between the dock and town. You can land on the mudflats but keep an eye on your boats if you are going to be there for any length of time. On the return trip we made a direct crossing back to Semiamoo and enjoyed a nice push from the in coming tide. Be aware you are crossing the US/Canadien border take identification just in case.

Semiamoo Inn $$$$ very nice but pricey, several local hotels/motels at less $$$. Bella Marina is an excellent Italian seafood restraunt in Blaine...and they make canolli's.

From Seattle take I-5 north to Blaine, follow the signs to Semiamoo and launch from behind the inn next to the old cannery buildings. An alternative is to launch from downtown Blaine by the Marine Park there are 2 excellent boat ramps in the marina for launching.
