Description:

After reading another posting on this site about the coosa river water I had to check it out for myself.. We planned a 7 mile day trip on Saturday the 6th of July with coosariveradventures.com. We put our canoe's in the water around 11:30 AM at the base of Jordan Dam. The river was flowing at about 4000 cfs. I would describe the water as slow but the whitewater was very nice. I would recommend this trip to people who don't mind paddling a lot between rapids. We were in a canoe wishing we had a kayak.

We turned over our canoe "right" of the famous Moccasin Gap and had to float nearly a mile down river before we found a rock to stand on to get back in our canoe. So if you dump over a lot I would not recommend this trip because it is not easy to get back in your canoe. The river is very wide and we did not encounter one sandbar.

River flows are controlled via scheduled water releases from Jordan Dam. Measured in cubic feet per second (cfs), flows vary from 2,000 cfs (Class II whitewater) to 10,000 cfs (Class III whitewater).
