Conteninea Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
Snow Hill, NC

We put in at the pubic Fishing Access in the middle of town and we had the other truck parked at the access area in Hookerton. 6 miles by land. We put in at 9:30 am. The creek was deeper and wider than I thought it would be, but oh, so many turns and bends.
We did not see hardly any wildlife. A blue heron, kingfisher, some other very large bird that we were unable to identify.
There were a couple of areas on the river that gave us some concern. We had to pull the kayak and canoe up the bank when a tree blocked the entire creek.
We thought this trip would take 2 hours but it took us 6. The last half we paddle constantly but Chris was the only one paddling the canoe. His choice.
We finally got to the pull out. It was a long day and not the best trip for some one first time taking their own kayak out on a river. But, I still enjoyed it. At one point we were far enough away from everything that we could not hear any sounds of civilization :-) It was great! If we knew it would take that long to paddle we would have brought food. Next time we may be over prepared but we won't be hungry. Just tired and cranky :-)
Ramp there is nice. The take out ramp in Hookerton is really steep!!
Highway 58 south out of Wilson, NC. At Snow Hill, turn left at the Trade Mart and Bojangles and you will see the public fishing access on the right before you get to the red light in the middle of downtown (I think it is downtown anyway)
