Clarion River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Submitted by: crokadile
The Clarion River extends from above Ridgway, PA all the way to the Allegheny River. A 60-mile trip from Ridgway to Clarion at the Toby Bridge Launch includes some of the most marvelous scenery and wildlife that PA has to offer. The Clarion River has been declared a wild, scenic river and for good reason.
Along the river there are many kayakable creeks, many of which are very challenging and exciting. Two of the most popular when water levels are high are Millcreek and Toby Creek, both at the Ridgway creeks and the Clarion creeks. The "Clarion" Millcreek has many class III rapids and very limited strainers and also has in store some beautiful cliffs and a couple of waterfalls that you can kayak under.
The Western PA Conservatory, the PA State Game Lands, the Allegheny National Forest, and Cook Forest and Clear Creek State Parks control most of the land and river frontage along the span of the river. In the Cooksburg and Clarington region there are many camping facilities and primitive camping in permitted in certain areas along the river.
To access the Clarion River many state and federal drops are provided at regular distances all along the river.
