This time the trip was undertaken by four kayakers and one John boat being paddled as well. Being Labor Day weekend we were worried we might encounter boaters in large numbers but due to low water conditions we only saw two boats all day. We were later hitting the water than intesing not putting in until 11 am. We did not take out until 430 pm. This trip could be done in much shorter time with little effort.
We stopped on sand bars for lunch as well as to play. We stopped on the down river end of a Sand bar to swim and relax. 3/4 of the river was ankle to knee deep here, leaving only a small section that would be navigable for boats. We saw four deer this trip as well as many turtles, birds, and fish. There is a nice current making it a relaxing paddle.
This section of the river, as you might can guess from out put in, has many large rocks, both submerged and out of the water. The scenery is beautiful with only two small buildings, and one RV park, for the length of the paddle.
Also during this paddle is Montgomery Lake, location where the world record large mouth mass was caught, just a few bends down river from out put in. Water permitting there is a brass plaque that can be viewed at the spot the 22 lb monster was caught. We passed it without paying attention so I am not sure if we could have gotten in at this time, although we have fished the lake in years past. The lake can be found via google earth or gps.
