Chagrin River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
July 10, 2013
I have been scouting this river for a few months now in hopes of taking a day trip from the Rogers Road Bridge to Daniels Park. I enjoy hiking in the North Chagrin Reservation nearby and always stop off at the river to see what it looks like at different levels. The average level is around 4 feet with typical rainfall, and as another writer mentioned, this is too low for paddling.
Well, after several days of heavy rainfall, the gauge at Daniels Park read 8 feet.
"That ought to be enough water! Lets go check it out."
And man oh man was it enough water... Too much, in fact. In the small section by the Rogers Road bridge that I looked at, the chocolate milk colored river rushed by with 4-5 foot standing waves... Impossible to navigate in a canoe.
I will wait until the river falls to around 5.5-6.5 feet, I imagine that would be a very nice level for this trip.
