Cape Broyle - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: Sept. 2001
Nearest City: St. John\'s, NF, Canada
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: mcgruer

Description:

Our Club went of on a four-hour paddle around Cape Broyle Sept of 2001. It is an easy paddle that included one bald eagle, a half dozen great caves, rocks to duck around (or not) water falls, sea stacks, one sandy beach we stopped for lunch on. On that trip there were no whales, no seals,

Cape Broyle can be a half hour scoot around the inner harbour of a full day of coastline to play in. and it is handy. The level of skill required depends on where you want to go. The only thing to be advised of is that sneaky waves can catch you unaware, as this area is open to the North Atlantic.

Accommodations:

Two restaurants and two bars, a couple of nice B & B's but it is very close to where I live so I don't bother much. There is a terrific restaurant in Wotless Bay called The Captains Table. And a great B & B in Witless Bay that is called Elaine's. I always try to stop at that restaurant when it is open. Great food Great Atmosphere and not expensive. The fish is superb.

Stan Cook runs an outfitting business from there. Conan Coates runs an outfitting business from Witless Bay. Both are very good.

Directions:

One hour out of St. John's the capitol city of Newfoundland is Cape Broyle. You can launch at the public wharf on the south shore. (My favourite) on the north shore by the fish plant. (Stan Cooks adventure group start there) or pretty much where ever you please. There are lots of good places to get your boat to the water without leaving your car too far away. And it is free.

Resources:

Marine maps of the area may prove handy.
