Wolf River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Shawano, WI
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: John Shier

Put in at County CCC and take out at Hwy 156. Trip length is 3+ hours. This stretch of the Wolf meanders through forestland and the Navarino Wildlife Reserve. There are a few cottages and farms along the route but it is mostly wild. Depending on the time of year the paddler will see great blue herons, white egrets, bald eagles, a variety of ducks, deer, and sandhill cranes.

This is a quiet and beautiful paddle. Current is moderate and there are no rapids. In early spring the river is high and one can often paddle directly across meanders and through the forest.

From GreenBay take Hwy 29 to junction with 156. Take 156 to the take- out. Travel eight miles north to CCC and the put-in.

The put in is at a public landing next to the CCC bridge. Take out is also a public landing twohundred yards in from the main channel just below the 156 bridge. Exit the river to the left about one hundred yards below the bridge.
