Description:

So little is able to be found about some awesome upper peninsula destinations for kayak and canoe enthusiasts I just had to share!

This July 21 marked our 22nd annual canoe and kayak float from the Faithhorn boat landing to the Sturgeon Bend Campground located in Faithhorne, Michigan.

This trip has become a local favorite gathering with upwards of 58+ canoes and 57+ kayaks all making their beautiful journey together down a wonderful stretch of mostly calm and serene waters of the Menominee River. One side is deemed Michigan to your right floating downstream the other left side is Wisconsin.

I say mostly calm because almost 1/2 way down this stretch of river is a small rapids called Quiver Falls deemed a class 2 I believe. Faint of hearters can walk around this area on a well-beaten trail and end at the small little "bay" at the end of the rapids. It offers about 1 minute of adrenaline but is fun and easy to navigate.

The entire trip is approximately 6 hours to complete. At the campground people who don't float the river have been busy preparing a feast of roast pork and every side you can imagine all brought from the people who attend, the pig being provided by the Dugree/Tarris family and cooked by Tim and Sandy Marshall every year.

This particular event occurs the third Saturday of July every year, rain or shine. We encourage newcomers as it is a wonderful way to meet new friends and share this lovely expanse of Upper Michigan/Wisconsin waterway.
