Flint River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: May 9, 2012
Nearest City: Columbiaville, MI
Difficulty: Moderate

Description:

I am coming from the Royal Oak area and would like to arrange an afternoon trip with some families from school. I chose this destination because of its proximity to the Northern Suburbs, available rentals, and place to picnic afterwards.

Since I was able to generate some interest, I felt I needed to go there first to see the river for my self. I put in near Millville landing and took out at Norway road, then road my bike to retrieve my truck.

The trip was about 5.2 miles by car and by boat it took about 2.5 hours at a steady clip. Current was moderate. There were some floating jams blocking the river in 2 spots. The rest seemed well groomed with large trees over the river secured to keep from falling even.

The surroundings were very natural for the most part, with some modest homes and an exquisite horse farm. Of course there was the idiot with keep out signs every ten feet for hundreds of meters (can you say sight pollution!) but for the most part the river was clean, quiet and peaceful.

I hope to paddle it again soon with friends. Enjoy!
