Lake George (Adirondack) - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Bolton Landing, NY
Launched from cartop area at Northwest Bay (adjacent to Tongue Mt). Enjoyable paddle south on a creek with wildlife viewing (birds, snakes, turtles, beaver). Explored some intersecting creeks and marshes then paddled up to the lake (about 15 minutes).
At times there is a little traffic sound as creek meanders. The creek opens up into Northwest Bay which is quiet except weekends in the summer,(Boaters come here to get out of the wind).
I chose a short paddle today and just encountered a couple of anglers in a canoe in the creek and a couple fishing from kayaks at the mouth of the Bay. One can continue up through the Bay and around Tongue Mt and picnic or camp at Montcalm Point or explore the many islands in the area. There are some fine swimming spots and some good jumping ledges.
Parking lot; no facilities.
Please wash your boat before launching if it has been in any other body of water.
Exit 24 Northway (I-87); East on Bolton Landing Road. North on 9N (the Lake Road) out of Bolton Landing or off Bolton Landing Rd. From Ticonderoga go south on Lake Rd (9N) over Tongue Mt. Look for brown and gold cartop parking lot sign.
Lake George Kayak Co. in Bolton has maps. None needed.
