Nearest City: Hayward, WI
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: MTBME

Description:

The Chippewa Flowage includes over 15,000 acres of water, 250 miles of shoreline and 150 islands (including 25 plus picnic and camping sites). Lots of places to tuck in and explore - be sure to take a map!

Sightings of bald eagles, blue herons, beavers, otters, turtles, ducks, osprey, deer, bear etc. Approximately 7% of the shoreline is developed. Remaining shoreline has been preserved by the State and the LCO Tribe.

Best time to paddle is Spring/early Summer and Fall, or early mornings and evenings during the summer when the fishing boat traffic is low (popular flowage for musky fishing).

Directions:

Numerous access points on the Chippewa Flowage 15-20 miles east of Hayward, WI. Best to stop in Hayward and pick up a map of the Flowage to check all the options. There is a map of the East half and the West half of the flowage.
