Little Pee Dee River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Weekend Trip Report
January 14-16, 2012
We started Friday night at Moccasin Bluff in Dillon. It was already raining and continued to for the duration of the night. We set camp and cooked under the rain fly. That night, Hugh and I took a canoe upriver to lead another canoe (he was late meeting us) to our camp. A tree limb knocked his pack off the boat. This is not good considering that this weekend was supposed to be cold. He had a Cabelas bag and everything inside was dry.
Saturday morning, I cooked breakfast with Hugh while Bradley went out to shoot ducks. We packed camp and headed down river. We jumped some ducks as we paddled and killed four. We paddled about 9 miles Saturday and constantly had to stand on fallen trees and pull the boats over to cross. Saturday night was supposed to be dry but cold, 21 degrees not including wind chill. We set camp by a beaver dam and used his wood for our fires. We ate our ducks and sat by the fire in the night.
We woke Sunday, and started the fire before packing. On the way out that morning, ice was frozen on everything. Water splashed on the canoe and froze immediately.
All and all it was a fun trip. It's the tough trips that make a good story.
two canoes, 1 tent, cooking equipment, lantern, rain fly, warm clothes, camera, 12GA, 410, bag for food, water containers. (you dont wonna drink that water)
Take #301 in Dillon onto Country Club Rd. Follow that road to Oakland and take a left. Turn left onto Mocassin Bluff Rd. as soon as you see a Clemson painted convenience store.
We pulled out at the #9 old bridge between Dillon and Lake View
