Shenango River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: April 1, 2012
Nearest City: Pulaski, PA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: Gwoo

Description:

We put in the Shenango River at Pulaski, PA. There are a couple of abandoned travel trailers just north of the bridge at Rt. 208. We parked right along the water.

Trolled upstream to West Middlesex and floated back to our origination point.

We spent 4 hours on the boat. Including a couple of breaks to do a bit of rock hunting along the banks. Water was low but we only had to portage one time for 30 yards while going upstream.

Saw several ducks but no other signs of wildlife. We enjoyed this stretch of the river as it was quiet and serene. With the exception of an old log cabin, there was not a single house or car or signs of civilization until we reached our upstream turning point, just south of West Middlesex.

Temperatures were in the low 50's. Just a couple of rain drops but it didn't dampen our fun.

Accommodations:

None

Fees:

No

Directions:

I-376 to Rt 208 - Pulaski/New Wilmington exit. West about 1 mile into Pulaski, cross the Shenango River brige and turn right. Then another immediate right onto a gravel drive to park.
