I found a beautiful paddle out of Bartlett Landing on the quiet side of the island. Went north above Black Island and around Green Island where I encountered some curious but wary seals. As I was alone, it was a little interesting being this close to some fairly big marine mammals with teeth!
Beautiful little harbors, lobster boats (stay out of there way, they are working), and homes along this quiet part of Acadia.
As with any trip like this, use some caution! Tell someone your plans, take some basic safety equipment and be very careful of the potential for fog. At the least take a compass. I would have been more adventurous if I had had one on board.
If I get back here, I would probably explore more of the quiet side by kayak venturing further north. Most of the area is open ocean but is more like a bay as it is protected by the many islands. Enjoy
