Tualatin River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: July 30, 2011
Nearest City: Hillsboro, OR
Difficulty: Easy

Description:

This was a nice spot to paddle. The river is calm, but there are a lot of snags to watch out for. If you go up river there is a drop of about two feet. There is a nice gap if you are coming down river to help negotiate, but no easy way past it going up.

We had the river to ourselves and saw a deer swimming in the river, and a Crane followed us down river for awhile. The water was very calm and easy to paddle, but there were lots of down trees and a number of snags to work your way through.

There is a great boat ramp and lots of parking at Rood Bridge Park. There is a small area to get in and out, but it's a bit steep and a little slippery.

Accommodations:

This is a great day park! Lots of picnic areas, walking trails, and many parking.

Fees:

No

Directions:

This is on Rood Bridge Road in Hillsboro. It's off River Road N turn toward Hillsboro High School, then follow Rood Bridge Road till you get to the park. Turn right when you enter the park and stay right till you teach the boat ramp.
