Long Pine Run Reservoir - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Chambersburg, PA
Difficulty: Easy

Description:

It was a 100 degrees out today, but it felt like 75 on the water. There is always a nice breeze out there.

If you drop in the water and move counter-clockwise around the lake you can get into some very comfortable shade along the shore. If you're willing to get out of the boat, you can also get some great pictures of the old dam. This is (in my opinion), the best part. When you get out of the boat and walk up the hill, the entire scenery opens up to a post card quality picture.

This is a great area to picnic or just get pics. The water itself is very calm along the shore line and a little choppy in the middle. Water visability is great.

Accommodations:

No facilities at this location.

Fees:

Boat Permit required.

Directions:

Follow route 30 towards Gettysburg.
Make a Left at Caledonia state park. Drive a few miles and make a left on to a dirt and rock road (at the sign). Go about a mile and make a left onto another dirt road. This is the boat ramp area.
