Cedar Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: July 13, 2011
Nearest City: Berkeley Townnship, NJ
Difficulty: Moderate
Submitted by: dawn36

Description:

This is a quiet and narrow river with a slow current, however, its serpentine twists and turns can be challenging in a canoe or long kayak. A lot of fallen trees hang low over the river, requiring paddlers to stay alert and duck as the current pulls you along!

Aside from a few small sandy beaches where you might see a few swimmers, the river is shrouded in woods and goes under three or four small bridges, as well as a highway overpass.

Accommodations:

Parking is free at both Double Trouble and Dudley Park.
The parks close at dusk.

Fees:

No

Directions:

If you have two cars, park one at your starting point at Double Trouble State Park in the NJ Pine Barrens and the other at your end point at Dudley Park off Rt. 9 in Berkeley, NJ.
(There are three access locations in the state park: at Dover Forge off Dover Road/CR 618; at Ore Pond off Pinewald-Keswick Road/ CR 618; and at the White Bridge in Double Trouble Village.)

From Double Trouble to Dudley Park is a roughly 2-hour trip. If you wish, you can continue south of Dudley Park.
