Shenango River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: July 9, 2011
Nearest City: Greenville, PA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: Scott Gill

Description:

Greenville to Big Bend on the Shenango River
The river was shallow. I had to exit seven times that I can remember. Three exits for downed trees and 4 exits for shallow water.

The water and the banks were very clean. Once you reach the Hamburg Bridge the water is fast for a little bit then it is deep and slow down to Big Bend.

With higher water levels, this would be an excellent trip. The scenery was great the whole trip. The trip took about three hours.

If I were taking the wife (she likes stillwater), I would put in at Hamburg Bridge and go to Big Bend. It's a very easy trip. I didn't have cell phone service at the Big Bend Access area. Had to walk down the road to get some service. This was a problem since I had to call my wife to come pick me up.

Accommodations:

None. There is parking at Big Bend Access area

Fees:

None

Directions:

Take Route 18 from Hermitage towards Greenville. Turn right on Wasser Bridge Road and the bridge is right there.
