Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: July 3, 2011
Nearest City: Omaha, NE
Difficulty: Easy

Kayaked from dam to dam, fishing along the ways near down trees and objects in water. Wind was nice and calm just enough to keep you cool.

This lake has charcoal grills in almost all parking lots, to cook your fish that you caught on your trip. I started at the far south-west "step dam" that serves as the water inlet for the lake. I would highly recommend paddling back into the inlet it was calm and very peaceful and was really neat.

I had lots of close encounters with wildlife; deer, muskrats, minks, and lots of migratory song birds. The fishing was great, caught lots of small mouth bass, some large mouth bass, black crappie, and sunfish.

Basic out-house type bathrooms in all parking lots. No drinkable water on site; so bring your own.

No fees or permits required

From I-80 exit 440 in Nebraska, head North on 144th street to Giles Road. At Giles road head west to Chalco Hills rec area on the left side of the road.

This lake has a nice put-in dock on the west side of the lake.

The "step dam" is a dam that has steps from top to bottom so put-in and take out are easy. The step dam is off Hwy 370. At I-80 Exit 339 in Nebraska go west on Hwy 370 cross a bridge and turn at the first left into the parking lot.
