Alum Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: May 14, 2011
Nearest City: Delaware, OH
Difficulty: Easy

Description:

This was a very fun and relaxing trip. I'd been planning it for a couple of years while I was in Texas and just recently was able to make it.

We parked one vehicle in Westerville at Alum Creek Park, then drove the 5 mi. road to Alum Creek dam. We dropped in just below the Alum Creek Dam and followed the river all the way into Westerville.

It's a very steady flow. Pretty scenic. In all the trip took about 2 hours, about 4 miles. A great adventure for those that like to see new things.

This trip is easiest if the water levels are high or the dam is let out because some parts are shallow. We didn't have to get out of the water though.

Accommodations:

Nice parks at start and end.

Fees:

No fees

Directions:

Take the outterbelt (270N) to state route 23. head East on Lewis Center Road and the Dam is on the left.

Resources:

Just Mapquest to locate the dam if you don't know the area.
