Records Pond is the end of the James Branch Canoe Trail that starts in nearby Trap Pond. The start of that trail was closed by the park service, so we launched at the State boat ramp at the US Route 13 bridge.

We headed upstream through blooming waterlilies; saw many geese and blue herons; and lots of cypress trees. We were able to paddle maybe a mile but the entrance to James Branch was blocked by deadfall and we couldn't find a good place to portage, so we headed back downstream to the pond.

It is a good size lake, and is very popular for fishing - a pleasant paddle for a couple of hours. An easy paddle up to the entrance of the James Branch. If paddlers were more energetic than we were, they could probably carry and hack their way upstream through the cypress swamp.

Ample parking, no facilities. Pack trash out. Make sure you lock up all valuables out of sight.

Located on US Route 13 in Laurel Delaware. There is a boat ramp just north of the bridge over the lake.
