Deep River - from Carbonton Dam to Deep River Park

Had a great paddle on the Deep River. There was a lot of flat water with some current and one class I (barely) rapid near Plank Road. Looked like the remains of an old dam.

Water level was about 2.4 ft at Moncure and if it was a bit higher the rapid would wash out. For flatwater paddlers 2.4 ft is probably as low as you want to go. There is a nice put-in park at the old Carbonton Dam on hwy 42 and Deep river park waits 12.6 miles later. Both provide easy access to the water.

The current flows at around 1-2 miles per hour and is very manageable. Not to many places to stop as the banks are steep and muddy. Great wild life scenery though.

Both Parks have ample parking and the park at Carbonton has a Porta Toilet.

From Highway 1 in Sanford, NC take 42 west 9.4 miles Carbonton Dam Canoe park to put in.

From Highway 1 in Sanford take Highway 421 west 4 miles to right on Cumnock Road. Continue on Cumnock Road 2.3 miles to Left on R Jordan Road and Locate Deep River Park on Left.
