Guyandott River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

This river is best run like most rivers in the East in the spring and early summer. A dam controls the water but they let out the amount that is coming in. Put in at the boat landing and when you start stay to the right bank under Justice Bridge. Make sure you don't hit the bridge pier. This is a nice class I rapid. In fact all of the rapids are class I except for the last one and it is a class II. From here on it is rapid then pool of water until you get to my house. The long rapid just above my house is the class II I was talking about. This river has a lot of bridge pears on it in the 5 miles down to the take out. There are six in all. This river also has two sawmills on it. The Guyandott River is a great river for beginners. It is a forgiving river and if you mess up get out and go again. Have Fun.
There are motels at Justice and Gilbert. You can also camp in my front yard on the river.
The Guyandott River is on Rt. 52 Between Gilbert and Justice WV.
Put-in is at Justice at the boat landing about 125 yds. above the Justice bridge North side or just below the RD Bailey Dam about one quarter mile on up stream. Take out is under the Gilbert Bridge on the right or half mile on down river at my house. You will know you are there when you go through a long rapid into a pool of water and see a boat dock on the right bank in front of my house.
