Governors Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report
February 12, 2011
My wife and I started the morning off in Black Creek but due to unforseen circumstances we decided to call it a day and go home early. After a few hours sitting around the house with our paddling fix not filled we decided to try out Govenor's Creek.
We launched at the public boat ramp at the mouth of Govenor's Creek to the St John's River and headed west under the bridge and railroad bridge. It was a sunny cool day and the water was cold and still. We didn't encounter any other boaters on the water. We headed west for about an hour at a very leisurely pace (ok...it was downright SLOW for me but my wife just wanted to relax and not "go get it").
We encountered alot of birds and even more turtles. I didn't see any gators but I didn't expect to either. About roughly 2 miles down the creek we came to a fork. I decided that the left trail (southern trail) looked easier so we paddled in that direction. We paddled another 20 minutes through very shallow water with muddy bottoms before my wife decided that was far enough for her. I guess I'll have to hit it up again later when I'm flying solo.
The paddle back was just as nice as the paddle in. Glassy water that reflected the trees and sky perfectly. This is definmatly a fun yet short paddle when your low on time or maybe just want a no hassle easy paddle.
Porta-potties and paved parking on site.
No fees. No Permits.
Boat ramp located right on highway 17 in Green Cove Springs, Fl. You literally can't miss it.
