Conasauga River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip
Day Trip Report

Put in at Lower Kings Bridge. Paddled upstream since I was by myself. The fall colors were getting very pretty. The water was up slightly from recent rains in the mountains. It was also a little colored. Too bad cause the Conasauga is usually extremely clear. I had planned to go all the way up to the Beverdale Bridge; about 8.5 mi. Didn't make it though. Cramps in my lower back and the back of my right arm stopped me at the head of Hampton Is. This is at about 6.75 mi. My float back down was very enjoyable. Lots of turtles on the Conasauga. Saw plenty. Mostly Snappers and Red Sliders. Only saw 2 people all day, they were floating downstream in Mohawk solo canoes. I paddle a Penobscot 16' tandem. I sure would like to try a solo someday, especially on my upstream trips. There were a lot of deer out on the return trip to. I startled 3 different groups.
This is a pretty easy trip. The water is very gentle a lot of the time. When I come to a shoal I get out and pull my boat through. I wear Neoprene hip waders on these uphill trips. The neoprene is for a little added floatation. They were a little warm on this trip but they will be fairly comfortable later in the season. Great day extremely clear, slightly windy, and it got up to about 70 deg.
To get to Lower Kings Bridge I drive down Highway 225 from Tennessee. I turned west at a little community called Fashion. About 1.5 mi. you come to River and the Bridge.
I used www.topozone.com
to plan my trip.
