Delaware River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: October 2009
Nearest City: Lackawaxen, PA
Difficulty: Moderate/Difficult

Description:

Upper Delaware River I have kayaked this a few times in a 14' touring boat.
Usually put in just above Skinners Falls and pull out at Port Jervis, NY. I have kayaked all 200 miles from Hancock, NY to Trenton, NJ and this is the best section of the Delaware.

Skinners can vary from a class 1+ to a class 3 depending upon water levels. After that, the rapids come along pretty frequently and all are class 1 and 2s. It is a great trip for anyone with some paddling experience. It is an easy-moderate two day trip camping overnight above Barryville.

Accommodations:

there are numerous campgrounds along the river. mostly no reservations needed.

Resources:

"Canoeing the Delaware River," by Gary Letcher is the go-to book.
