Farrington Lake - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Difficulty: Easy

Description:

Farrington Lake is a good sized, very calm lake on the border of North Brunswick and East Brunswick, NJ. The lake links via streams to Davidson's Mill Pond to the south, and Lawrence Brook, Westons Mill Pond and the Raritan River to the north. Some portage is required to paddle the whole length, as there are dams and shallows go around.

Some of the shoreline is developed, though with nice houses as seen from the water, and there are also wilder areas where local parks border the lake. There are also several put-in locations along the length. No gasoline engines are allowed, so it is also nice and quiet even with other boaters on the water.

Directions:

North or South on Rt. 130 to Old Georges Road. Turn onto Curch Ln. (left from the north, right from the south). Take to Riva Ave. and turn left onto Riva. Immediately on the left is a parking/ramp area I use. If it is too full, continue on Riva to Oakmont Ave., which becomes Hardenburg Ln. and there is a parking area on the left next to the electrical transmission towers.
