Beseck Lake - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Middlefield, CT
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: Lenny

Description:

This is a great lake for a couple of hours of quiet paddling. It's about 160 acres in size. Occasionally there're some jet skis, but usually there are just a couple of fishermen angling for bass.

The northern half of the lake has houses all around it, but the southern part is all woods and grass. Try to find the old boat on the lake bottom in that part of the lake! We saw an egret in the southern part, and a family of swans, with seven little ones. The water appears to be clean.

There are not a whole lot of lakes in the central Connecticut area which are suitable for kayaking, and this one is one of the better ones.

Accommodations:

State Boat Launch, Plenty of parking, port-a-potty

Fees:

None

Directions:

Take I-691 all the way towards Meriden. I-691 eventually becomes Rt 66. Continue on Rt. 66 for about a mile and then turn right on Rt. 147. The state boat launch will be on the right hand side in about a mile and a half.
