I started out in my kayak on the west side of the lake and made my way upstream. The current is not too strong, but you will get a good workout if there has been rain recently.
The river is beautiful and well maintained. You will encounter people fishing in motorboats within the park, but it is a no wake zone and they are generally respectful. The river passes under roundtree bridge road as I leave the park paddling upstream. It takes 2-3 hours to reach this point. Now you may find some small rapids depending on the water level-nothing too tough.
I continued north for another hour or so and the river opens back up and is even more beautiful than it was inside the park. At this point I turned around and enjoyed a leisurely paddle back to the lake.
The further up the river you go the less chance you have of being bothered by boats and people. About half the time you do not see or hear another soul. There is a place to put in at the bridge if you want.
Wildlife was abundant: otters, bald eagle, herons, wild turkey, ducks, geese. I heard a coyote, and alligators are possible.
