Lake Singeltary - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Destination Report
Nearest City: Sutton, MA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: auburnjeff

Relatively small and popultated body of water, but surprisingly quiet most of the time. There is a fair amount of bird life to be viewed including a variety of ducks, cormorants, herons, osprey, hawks and a now-common bald eagle.

It takes about an hour to 1.25 to paddle the shoreline at a leisurely pace. There are some nice homes to view, and some undeveloped shoreline as well.

The fishing here is good, best known for bass but known to hold pike, trout and catfish along with perch and sunfish. Kids will love fishing for sunfish (bluegill, pumpkin seed or, locally, "kevers') in the summer with a bit of nightrawler; the line barely hits the water before the fish are nibbling the bait!

This is a fairly central location and convenient from all of South Central MA. While not the most interesting place to paddle, in my opinion, it is great to just get out for some sun and exercise on short notice.

Paved parking and boat launch. Restroom. Convenience store, bait shop and restaurants nearby.

From major routes - Rt 146 take Millbury West Main St exit. Go left and follow all the way and the boat ramp will be on the left just past the fire station. From I395 take the Sutton Rd exit (5 I think) and follow toward Sutton. Take left at Singeltary Rd and follow for about 6 miles. You see the lake on your right, and the boat ramp will come up on your right. If you pass the fire station, you went too far.
