Shenandoah River - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: April 11, 2010
Nearest City: Winchester, WV
Difficulty: Easy

Description:

Myself and two adult children put in at the rt. 7 bridge outside of Berryville, VA. We were using a Wilderness Pamlico 120, Old Town predator 111,and an Old Town Vapor 10.

The weather was as good as it gets. The river was up slightly due to heavy snow melt and rain, but very calm. We had the river to ourselves most of the trip. The run took approx. 5 hours, but due to my son and his sister goofing around, we spent an additional hour bailing out his swamped Predator.

We encountered 4 sets of riffles that would give kids a thrill, aside from those it was a calm ride. Our takeout point was the Bloomery bridge on rt.115 just outside of Charlestown, WV.

All things considered, my kids and I had one of the best days of our lives.

Accommodations:

available at either end

Fees:

No

Directions:

We started at rt.7 bridge about 12 miles south of Winchester, VA. Take out was at 115 Bloomery bridge about 3 miles south of Charlestown, WV.
