French Creek - Kayak Trip / Canoe Trip

Report Type: Day Trip Report
Trip Dates: April 30, 2010
Nearest City: Cambridge Springs, PA
Difficulty: Easy
Submitted by: snowchaser

Description:

We paddled from Cambridge Springs to Seagertown, PA. The river was great, although a little slow for the first hour. It was pretty windy the day we went, but we toughed it out. The only downfall is there are very few places to stop, even in the middle of nowhere, as the banks are either tall and steep, or muddy and steep. Beside that, we had a blast.

River is plenty deep, I am a large man in a little 9.5 kayak and only scraped the bottom once. There were a few little riffles too. Not really what I would call rapids, but I can see how the French Creek could be quite rowdy during high water. Getting over the dam remains in Saegertown could be difficult in low water.

Accommodations:

No restrooms at either site.

Fees:

PA launch permit

Directions:

Put in just north of Cambridge Springs at PFBC access site, take out just south of Saegertown, also at PFBC sccess site.
