Black Moshannon State Park
Report Type: Weekend Trip Report
Trip Dates: June 1-4, 2009
Nearest City: Philipsburg, PA
Difficulty: Easy

Description:

The lake was gorgeous and I would recommend this as a trip for anyone. The lake is a bit small gets shallow some spots but well worth the travel.

Black Moshannon is a unique bog land in Pennsylvania and due to its elevation, it harbors plants and animals otherwise not found in this state such as a variety of carnivorous plants. There are many water plants to paddle through and it can be thick but not a problem and it tends to be very cool there because of the mountains. The plants cause water to be a tea or black color which I like. Nice trails and one small one with information about the forest/animals along it.

LOVED IT. A very unique place.

Accommodations:

Wonderful campground nothing to complain about. CLEAN with modern bathrooms. Good campsites well wooded and most are spacious enough. The cabins look modern and well kept.

Directions:

Black Moshannon State Park is in Centre County on PA 504, nine miles east of Philipsburg.
