My wife and I entered the Reservoir via the Route 44 boat ramp. This was more of a cleared area on the shore than a boat ramp. The parking lot was clean, and graveled. The area also has a Porta Potty.
This reservoir is one of the water sources for the City of Akron so gas motor traffic is not permitted. We put in at the boat ramp and paddled west to the Auburn Road Bridge. We spotted several Blue Heron fishing in the shallows, and two large flocks of Canadian Geese floating on the water.
We turned around, paddled east back past the boat ramp and under the Route 44 bridge continuing on into the main leg of the reservoir. We traveled north along eastern side of the Reservoir to the Route 422 Bridge, then turned around and paddled south along the Western shore. Total time on the water was 2 1/2 hours.
No fees or permits required.
From Cleveland: take I:71 or I:77 south to I-480 East. Take the Route 422 East ramp towards Solon. Stay on Route 422 East until you reach the exit for Route 44. Take the Route 44 exit and turn right (south) at the bottom of the ramp. The Boat Ramp and parking is on the right approx. 1 1/2 miles.
