Report Type: Day Trip Report

Nearest City: Kuna, ID
Difficulty: Moderate

Description:

Indian Creek is a popular tuber float. We checked it out on Google maps. Using the satellite option you can see that there are several small whitewater chutes.

We put in at Indian Creek Elementary School on 4th St in Kuna. Our put in was just below the diversion dam. From there it is a short paddle to the first little section of whitewater. An easy class I.

Not far from there, it gets a little more challenging. A rather long (200 yard) class II rapid drops into a little bassalt canyon. At the bottom there is a great place to eddy out, climb the walls & jump off into the pool.

There are several little rapids along the trip. Watch for rocks at lower flows & there is a bridge about 2/3rds of the way down that you may have to duck to get under.

Accommodations:

I'm sure there is a hotel somewhere in Kuna. Go to the Long Horn bar for a cold beer when you get off of the creek.

Fees:

No Fees or permits required

Directions:

From Boise, take I84 west to the Meridian/Kuna Exit SR69. Go south on Meridian Road into Kuna. Meridian Road sweeps to the right as you enter town & turns into Avalon St. Then it curves to the left & turns into Shortline. Then back to the right & turns into Avalon again before turning into Kuna road as you reach the west side of town. Follow Kuna Road west through town. I jogs left & right as you go through town. Just stay on the beaten path. Turn right at the Jacksons/Shell station (forgot the street name) & go north to 4th Street (about 1 block). Turn Left on 4th street & proceed west to Indian Creek Elementary School (on the left). The put in is on the west side of the school grounds.

To get to the take out, go back to Kuna Road & go west out of town about 1.5 miles. Turn right (north) on Blackcat Road. Follow Blackcat road about 2 miles north to the take out. There is an old train bridge on your right. Parking is on the left side of the road. Beware that as you drive north on Blackcat Road there is a right hand turn that you have to take which crosses some rail road tracks. If you miss that turn, Blackcat turns into Greenhurst (or something like that).

Resources:

You can check it out on Google maps. Click on the satellite option once you locate the creek. It shows the whitewater.
